The Tight End by Raleigh Ruebins

3.0

I hate to say this but The Tight End was probably my least favorite story in the Red’s Tavern series. Logan and Brody were sweet together and apart, but their relationship just felt a little forced and lacked some substance.

Logan is a self-professed history nerd who spends most of his free time in the library or reading until he falls asleep. But the biggest thing to know about Logan is that he’s lonely and has been for a long time. After being bullied in high school he became more and more shy and introverted, keeping himself closed off to making connections.

Brody is a football superstar whose name is known all around campus and is often linked to gossip about his romantic partners and sexuality. He’s a charmer with a huge personality and he turns Logan’s world upside down, introducing him to a side of college life he’d never explored before.

Logan and Brody become housemates during their senior year and there’s definitely some mutual attraction there. They become friends and help each other out with being more social and with studying history. But, as their relationship turned into more, I just didn’t feel the connection. Yes, they were sweet together and both deserved to be happy after everything they’d been through, but I didn’t love the two of them together. I found myself checking to see how many chapters were left pretty frequently - I just wasn’t invested in their story. They felt a little immature/shallow as characters and I wanted more from them - more connection, deeper conversations and more interactions with other people, especially their families.

I’ve really enjoyed the Red’s Tavern series overall but didn’t connect with Logan and Brody so this one was just okay for me. Hoping for a more mature story next if Raleigh Ruebins keeps this series going.
