I didn't love this book as much as all the others in the series (I read Sunrise on the Reaping first) and I don't think I was supposed to. I loved how much more depth it added to the rest of the books, but I found Snow so unlikeable that it was hard to read sometimes. But again, you weren't supposed to like him.
I've heard other people say this book humanizes him and I respectfully disagree. It shows, to me, how entitled and selfish he was even as a youth. He was a monster waiting to be unleashed.
The writing was, as always, superb.
