All The Bright Places is centered around two main characters. Finch and Violet. Each chapter voices Finch or Violet’s point of view. The book explores issues like grief, suicide, bullying, and mental illness.
This book shows you the dark parts of life. The parts that are very much real, but not always talked about. It was a very sad and sorrowful book that gave me a weird hollow feeling by the end, but it also showed the reality of life…the reality that unfortunately things in life don’t always have a happy ending, and sometimes you just have to make the best of it.
For me, it was really slow paced in the beginning. BUT it is a character driven book with two characters telling you their every thought, so obviously it’s going to be slow-paced at some points. I will say there were a lot of happy and cute moments in this book, but I still wouldn’t call it a light-hearted read.
In conclusion this book deals with the most heavy laden parts of life. You can’t expect a fast paced read with huge plot twists and climax’s because real life isn’t always like. I would definitely recommend this book, but only if you are in the mood for something happy yet sorrowful aka bittersweet.
