Going into this I did not know that there was a previous series that came before it about Phillip and his team mates. I also didn't remember that I already read the first book of that series. It didn't take long after Phillip and Reese were together in this book for me to guess that was the case. It's not a bad thing but I couldn't help but feel sometimes that I was missing something that would have made me enjoy some of those characters more.

That being said I didn't really fully connect with the main characters of this book anyways. Insta-love is a big pet peeve of mine and this book had that big time. There was a period at the beginning with no sex but it still seemed like sex and lust was all they had in common. They constantly thought and talked about how they wanted to have sex. I wanted them to actually get to know each other. They were in love too fast so I just never really believed it. That is especially true because of what we learn about Claire's childhood. After all that and her not dating anyone and not wanting to just sleep with guys and she jumps into bed with Jude right away. Where was the build up. There is no foundation for their relationship except for lust and sex.

Jude is not any better. I do not for a second believe that Jude is that much of a slut that he just does a complete 180 without any real character development to support that. I really did not like how all the women who were after Jude were portrayed. I mean come on maybe a few women would come out and say those things but not that many. Women are a lot smarted than to believe that the second Jude stops sleeping around he would commit to them when he didn't commit when he slept with them. Jude can be portrayed as someone who sleeps around without making all the women that have slept with him, or want to sleep with him, be whining girls controlled by their vaginas.

The big secret and blow up between Jude and Claire was a waste of time for me. I new she wasn't going got tell him everything so that was not a surprise. But I also think that he overreacted and didn't really have any reason to be as mad as he was. I especially hate characters that claim to love someone (overly so) and then the second something goes even slightly wrong they are done. To me it wasn't even as big of a deal as Jude made it. Of course he has a right to be upset but not that much. It doesn't help much that Claire's reasoning is stupid and felt forced.

I checked and it turns out I have read quite a few hockey themed books. Many of those being way better that this one. But even so I can see the potential. I wanted more build up between the Jude and Claire. I wanted to be shown more of why Claire and Phillip were so close since I have not and do not plan to read his book where it might show more. This was a easy fast read and I know that I kind of dumped all over it but it really does have potential. I think just at this point I have read so many books that are better (and apparently a bunch of hockey ones) that I expect more. One of the hockey series that I like is the one that starts with [b:The Deal|24920901|The Deal (Off-Campus, #1)|Elle Kennedy|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1431282052s/24920901.jpg|44100599]. It's not perfect but I liked the characters a lot more.
