Ahmed Aziz's Epic Year
by Nina Hamza
A solid debut novel.
I always enjoy books that involve a student learning to appreciate reading, with the help of a great teacher. Also, it's a treat to read about a young, male muslim as the protagonist and their family.
Ahmed is a very likable character and I snorted some at the sarcastic comments he made. Young readers see how Ahmed is able to handle friendships with different personalities, and how to handle when you get the chance to exact revenge on a bully. My critique is it just felt like it was missing something. They were parts in the book that were very beautiful, but I was waiting for something. I do look forward to more of this author's work.
