This book was such a wonderful time and I cannot wait to read the next in the series! I would almost describe this as the middle-aged character equivalent of cozy, fantasy, young adult books. It reminded me so much of reading the fantasy books I used to read as a kid, just, a bit more adult with older characters, more mature opinions and perspectives, and some good cursing. I also really enjoyed that this book wasn't too long and didn't drag anywhere, so it felt like an easy and comfortable read. The writing style was lovely and easy to follow, I loved all of the diverse magical creature characters, and I loved getting to finally see a middle-aged woman as the female lead. I would easily reread this book just for an easy fantasy read.
I can't wait to see where this story goes in the rest of the series!

Moderate: Gore, Violence, Alcohol, Blood, and Death
Minor: Cancer, Vomit, Cursing, Sexism, Misogyny, Pregnancy, and Infidelity
There are minor mentions or inclusion of cursing (most of the characters curse to varying degrees throughout the book ), infidelity (the female lead's ex-husband is insinuated to have cheated if I remember right ), cancer (in passing), pregnancy (the female lead is a middle-aged woman with a grown son, so she periodically discusses the effects of pregnancy on her physical body and appearance ), misogyny and sexism (the female lead periodically discusses and rants about these topics ), and vomit (in passing).
There are more moderate mentions and depictions of alcohol (the main characters somewhat regularly drink alcohol, go to bars to hang out, get drunk by accident, and the town itself relies on a wine-based tourist industry ) as well as violence, gore, blood, and death (one of the side characters is a vampire that drinks blood and towards the end of the book is a magical fight resulting in fairly gruesome deaths ).
