The Kites - set in Normandy during the Second World War and follows the lives of Ambrose Fluery, an eccentric kite-making pacifist and Ludo Fluery, a boy who’s cursed with the inability to forget. Ludo, falls in love with a polish girl, Lila, whose wealthy family owns the estate next door. Ludo seems quite happy for his purpose in life to be with Lila and his memories are what carries him through the months between Lila visiting. Lila often “dreams of herself” and questions whether there’s more to life than being yearned after by men. But after Germany invades Poland, Ludo’s devotion is to save Lila and ultimately himself.
