Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy

3.0

I ended this book with very mixed feelings.
I started it with distate. Ended with relief and satisfaction.

I've heartily recommended this to several people despite a 3 star rating. It was more twisty and turny than I expected. It was darker than I expected. The first few chapters were overly poetic and felt a bit overwrought. It was hard to get into and then ZOOM the story actually takes off and I was hooked. I think this may have been a 4 star book for me had I felt emotionally involved with any of the characters, but I didn't. Part of the premise is that the protagonist is emotionally broken, but her emotional distance set me up for emotional distance as well. I didn't love this book. But I give it a solid like, because the story is very interesting, and so I recommend it.
