Understanding Distributed Systems: What every developer should know about large distributed applications by Roberto Vitillo

informative medium-paced

3.0

Last page of the book said to leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads. But I’m reviewing on here instead!

I think this book is a good refresher but I wouldn’t recommend it too much for learning distributed systems for the first time. I feel it can best be described as broad but not too deep. There are also a lot of technical terms the book assumed you know instead of defining.

This book would make a great checklist to remind you of what is needed when building a system. But if you actually want to understand each part you’ll need to do a lot more learning. Each topic of this book deserves its own book not just a short chapter.

All that said, it does have its uses and I definitely had a few “aha” moments based on the way things were described.

Tl;dr great refresher for experienced programmers. Not the best for people new to the area.
