It's the perfect ghost story. I feel like there's nothing more to say that hasn't already been said. But when Toni Morrison sat down and wrote this, she knew that she was going to keep me up at night thinking about these characters. They're so raw (that's such a reviewer word lmao) and at times I thought I knew who the antagonist was or who was in the wrong, but then I'd read another chapter and find a completely different side of them. I think what makes this story so perfect to me is how the characters go on this winding trip of visiting and revisiting their trauma and pain. Sometimes, its so blunt and impersonal -- here are the facts and other times they're dragging you through the mud with them, through their fear and anxieties. I'm glad this was my first Toni Morrison book.
