Mad Honey by Jennifer Finney Boylan, Jodi Picoult, Jennifer Finney Boylan
4.0
My favourite thing about this book is the cover, which is sadly not the one used here on GR.
I really enjoyed this book and appreciated all the extremely important relevant topics and themes it covered. It was written so powerfully, hitting all the right spots to make you think about everything.
I particularly enjoyed the courtroom setting and being taken through both defence and prosecution arguments. At a point where you didn’t know the truth, you sort of felt like the jury trying to piece together what really happened to Lily.
I loved the swapping of povs for the chapters. At first it felt odd that Lily’s story was going backwards, but after a couple chapters you could feel how much it was adding to her backstory.
With regard to the twists, the one in the middle of the book took me completely by surprise however the one later on fell a bit flat for me. Whilst I didn’t expect it, I didn’t really feel like it was believable or woven into the story well enough. It felt like it was rushed for the sake of a twist at the end of the book so hence the loss of a star.
I would definitely still recommend this, but much more for the themes it covers rather than the thriller/plot twist aspect.
