The Player of Games by Iain M. Banks

Did not finish book.
DNF. I got a chapter or two in, reached the part where the guy recruiting Gurgeh says it's time to decide, is he in or out -- and I realised I was out. Didn't like any of the characters we'd met up to that point, didn't care what happened to Gurgeh in particular, and what I'd seen of the plot so far gave me an uncomfortable feeling that the author was lurking just out of my eyeline ready to jump out and shout "Aha! Everything you think you know is wrong!", which I wasn't willing to put up with for the sake of these jerks.
