I Moved to Los Angeles to Work in Animation by Natalie Nourigat

5.0

This was a wonderful read! As a person seeking employment I thought this was nice introduction to what it was like to job hunt, move out of state to California, and learning to adjust and make new friends. Although I am not aiming to go into animation, I am in a creative field and am considering moving to California for work. The jobs I like at least for now are in California. So, I think I like this book because it came to me at a perfect time where I am in that limbo of finding a job and then wondering what I need to do to once I achieve it. I love how she talks about the grind and about unions. Animation wasn't as cut throat as I thought it was and it was nice to hear about the nasty side of it rather than just oh get a job by working hard and work is fun and sometimes boring. She goes into details about unions, places to go people watch, the goods and bads which was not something you typically hear (at least in my experience).

Overall, a great read and a nice introduction to the moving life. Art and design is amazing and well done! I appreciate the use of colors and how expressive the characters are. Everyone she interviewed had their own perspective and journey to being a storyboard artist and it was nice to see all the sides.
