What did I just read?
This book took “Would you still love me if I were a fish?” too literally….
I’m not sure if it’s a book about letting go (whether grief or trauma) or some weird, abstract psychological ecstasy that you might have if you eat oysters with cocaine..
Having said that, I just don’t get the book (…obviously), even though I really wanted to, as so many people love this book, but I fear, it’s simply not my taste. Both the plot and writing left me unsatisfied. Especially towards the end, when the writing became so annoying, esp for Miri’s pov!! I’m not sure if it’s meant to highlight Miri’s overthinking personality, or just a case of repetitive, overwritten dialogue..(it drove me crazy!! and kinda motivated me to finish this book).. For example, it was like: “I remember when Leah …, how she…., how she…., how she…, despite that I always remember how…., how….and so on, and so on…” it drove up the walls (and that happens rarely)..
The plot was ok…the only suspense that pushed me to finish the book were the last lines of each chapter..but in between, it all kinda felt like the author was trying to hit the word limit for the book…it was so mundane!! And don’t get me wrong, I love a good slow-burn, mundane, boring book, but this just wasn’t for me…it felt like this book could have been a novella and I would have been satisfied with a short story, however, it was sooooooo dragged out..
Ughhhh im disappointed…well onto the next read ig?
