Who Could That Be At This Hour?: 1
by Liam Aiken, Lemony Snicket
I am a huge Lemony Snicket fan and his Unfortunate Event series is probably my favourite children series and now he’s written a pre-sequel about early years in a secret organisation starting with a mystery at decrepit town.
As a long standing fan it was interesting to read something from Snicket’s perspective that was actually about him. Since this a children’s boo the narration and plot was easy to follow yet still retained Snicket’s signature mystery and mild absurdity. Each character is unique and all add something to the story, e.g. Prosper Lost’s carelessness and greed which helps Snicker lure out the villain and pretend to go along with his plan.
The writer has a clever way of planting seeds which don’t make sense or may seem irrelevant in the moment but proves vital at the end. Occasionally my interest did wane but the voice actor did a great job with voices. I will be listening to the rest of the series!
