The Secret of Chimneys
by Agatha Christie
To a modern reader, this wasn't really a detective novel. There is a murder or two but they're so insignificant and solving them takes a backseat while we're walked through the key romance of the story, which I wasn't really that into.
Also, I'm sorry but Christie's idea of a Balkan nation state is super cringey - she literally called it Herzoslovakia and had its citizens speak like Yoda ("war there may be" and "know this I do not").
There were exactly two enjoyable characters: Lord Caterham and Battle, although the latter could've been given more presence. 2.5/5
