This is a novel that I wish I had buddy-read with someone to discuss it. Toni Morrison writes poetic prose and this is no different. In her second novel, Sula is more than a book about friendship.
What I got from it was a very layered character-driven novel, which explores patriarchy's effects on both genders, an examination of morality e.g., what are morality's constructs; what are its limits, and how morality is possibly fueled by "evil."
An interesting story that was beautifully written as only Mrs. Toni Morrison could do.
*As with all of her novels, there is trauma and triggers throughout the book.
