So Lovely a Country Will Never Perish: Wartime Diaries of Japanese Writers by Donald Keene

4.0

Fascinating look at political and social views of Japanese writers during WWII and the Allied Occupation, with the letters/diary entries interspersed with context and commentary from the author. While never justifying or excusing what was done, it is still an illuminating look at the time from a different perspective.
