The Ocean at the End of the Lane
by Neil Gaiman
This was my first time reading Gaiman, and I really enjoyed this! There is so much packed in this short novel, between beautiful imagery and symbolism, that I found myself consistently trying to figure out what fantastical events may unfold next and where it would all land. To me, the interplay that I found most fascinating was between the perspective of our now middle-aged protagonist and his childhood memories filled with magic, wonder, and supernatural, that we revisit. I found the ending incredibly satisfying and gorgeous, with the last paragraph or two filling in any remaining puzzle pieces as to what we may have just been witness to. So much so, I think I will revisit this again in the future, with this new lens in mind.
