I can understand why it was a Caldecott winner since the year that it was chosen that type of illustration was not typical. However the font was small and wordy so my daughter lost interest as a new reader. She did tell her own story with the beautiful pictures which is just as good as reading the story. It shows her creativity. I used it to also talk about how people lived before cars, houses, and technology.
