This book was so incredibly hard to get into, and the plot holes were so deep, I started to roll my eyes at the story. The romance had no development. There was a single moment where I thought the execution might right itself, which it promptly squandered. Super disappointed, given all the hype. This book doesn't handle sensitive themes well (the main character sure drones on, but has no true introspection or self awareness to her inner life - just angst, misery, insecurity). The main character wavers at every possible decision. There are no real stakes. Quarter of a star for the build up at the end... which didn't actually have any consequences, but was still less painful to read than the rest of it. I'm going to try to give the second book a go so I can face my friends, but... I really could not stand this.
