Transmogrify!
by g. haron davis
As an average rating, which is how I usually do anthologies, this comes out at three stars, but I want to give it more because I love the concept!
Origin Story:
This was so saccharine at the end, but so engaging at the start! I really liked it as a premise, and I am HERE for the next bit! 4/5
Halloween Love:
I'm obsessed. I need more. The hair thing is so cute! 5/5
Verity:
I wanted to like this, but sadly, it totally missed the mark for me. I don't think stories this short have capacity for time skips, and there was very little plot in the first place. 1/5
Dragons Name Themselves:
Very very cute, but my golly, I found the writing style frustrating. I could not read a whole book of this. 1.5/5
High Tide:
A classic "enby challenges gender roles" story, but it seemed like the nonbinary MC was as prejudiced as some of the other characters. I did not like them. 2/5
In a Name:
I liked the non-western setting here, but I thought the story was pretty bland. 2/5
Bite the Hand:
I think I missed something here. I do not know what the point was. 1/5
If I can't have love, I want power:
This story was intriguing and really took me into its universe. I would love to read more of it! 4.5/5
The Hallow King:
Arghhg another story where I really really just want more! Love the classic Halloween vibes here. 5/5
Genderella:
This is the only Cinderella retelling I've ever needed. It was so lovely! 4.5/5
Seagulls and Other Birds of Prey:
This was charming and sweet. I love the broomstick lore!4/5
Bend the Truth, Break It Too:
I read this one twice to try to understand it, and I don't really know what was going on. 2.5/5
Espejismos:
I love the culture and the use of Spanish in this. It felt like a very delicate story and this only scratched the surface, but it was beautiful. 4.5/5
The Door to the Other Side:
Nooo! This wasn't a short story; it was clearly the first chapter of a whole story I need to read right now! 4.5/5
