The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

"There's always another secret"
Except it's no secret that I really love this story. I don't dip my toes into fantasy often enough, but when I do - I want to be rewarded. Even being part of a trilogy, this story stands well on its own with a very satisfying ending.

This is the second time I'm reading this book, and I'm very happy to note that it still stands at the same rating it previously did, or even higher. I was also very happy to note that my memory isn't as bad as I thought it was since I remember most of the things that happened.

In the reread, I appreciated Sanderson's writing even more, the way the story was set-up and the absolutely brilliant characters he came up. My reverence for Kelsier faded a little, but it was replaced by admiration for his character in other ways - his political manoeuvring and his loyalty towards his friends and to some degree, even his manipulation. From this reread, he came out more morally grey and that's what I love in a complex character. This time, I was also less annoyed by Elend and understood Vin's character even better as well. I see myself in Vin in a lot of ways, being skinny and having unruly hair, and that adds more value to the story for me because you don't have to look like a warrior to be strong.

An extremely enjoyable reread and I look forward to picking up the next one.
