The Potty Mouth at the Table by Laurie Notaro

2.0

I think I'm going to have to go back and read at least one of her earliest books, because this just seemed to be slapped together, and I know there is a reason that people love Notaro. This is just not it.

There is nothing wrong with snarky, but mean-spirited and crass does not equal humor. Especially when she name drops specific people just to be insulting. I'm no prude and I'm not offended by colorful language, but how many times in one essay about foodies can you call other people a-holes? If you're going to be critical of everyone and everything, at least throw in a little self-deprecation.

Not only did I not find this funny, I also don't think the moments or subjects that she chose to write about were significant enough to merit an entire collection of essays.
