3.5

A disturbing examination of art, sex and the darkest parts of human nature, through the lens of a deeply unreliable, and detestable, narrator. The writing wasn't always the best, and despite the book's relatively short length there was at times a feeling of aimlessness and shock over story, but I was very invested in where Irina's story went and her continued delusion. Bonus points for great LGBT representation and an unsaturated, brutal exploration of queer themes as well as the disturbing fetish culture Irina is part of.
