Amelia Anne Is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield
3.0

Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone is a coming of age mystery novel based in a small town. Becca has grown up in a small town where everyone knows everything about everyone. She is ready to graduate high school, so that she can move away to make something of herself although she has some fears about moving on from her small town home. But then, an unidentified young girl, Amelia Anne, is found on the side of a county road brutally murdered. Amelia Anne is dead and gone, and the small town police try piecing together who her murderer is and who the unidentified girl actually is. The story is told in multiple perspectives -Becca’s and Amelia Anne's up until the murder. It was definitely interesting unraveling the mystery from both of their perspectives, and learning about both characters as you go along. Although I have to say I didn’t really feel connected to any of the characters.

I really enjoyed the imaginative writing and the who done it plot, but I felt like the pacing was quite slow at times. Nevertheless, it was still a well written and quick young adult mystery to read. The fact that I wanted to know who the murderer was kept me pushing through the slower bits of the book. And the ending was quite a twist – you have a list of suspects in your head, but you really have no idea who the murderer actually is until the (big) reveal at the very end. Being from a small town myself, I really enjoyed the small town setting. Kat Rosenfield really hit the nail on the head when explaining/describing how it is to grow up in a small town. That was the main reason I picked up this book.
