Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid
dark

While this was an engaging read overall and an Interesting take on the character of Lady MacBeth, the book missed the mark for me in several ways. We meet Roscille as a new bride to MacBeth, whose home is far from her own and who she imagines to be barbaric. Her imagination seems to reflect reality as we learn more within the story. Her husband and his most loyal men are portrayed as one-dimensional villains, their actions confirming Roscille’s worst fears about their characters. The romance is rushed, although I am assuming that wasn’t meant to be a central part of the plot. Overall the portrayal of survival and overcoming what seems to be a foregone fate resonated, but none of the characters seemed fleshed out enough to be real other than Roscille. This ultimately created a story that lacked the depth I’ve found in other books by Reid.
