Glow: The Revelations of Oriceran by Michael Anderle, Martha Carr

Looks like I managed to start two new urban fantasy series in a row. First Samantha Kane and now The Fairhaven Chronicles. l would personally classify this one as young adult as well as urban fantasy though.
Again this is a story that starts off with a young girl who suddenly gets thrown into a mystical world where magic is real and thing go bump in the night. Yes yes l know, l have been using that last expression a lot but I happen to like it.
However this is also a story about a young girl seeking revenge. Our protagonist are not exactly finding her new world by falling into a rabbit hole. Instead she is introduced to it by means of death and mayhem. There certainly is no uncertainty who the big bad wolf, eeh…I mean elf, is as he presents himself in a way that makes this point quite clear in the first few pages of the book.
So there is the magical world and there is there is the revenge. There is however also a third theme running through this book. That is the theme of two BFF’s taking this perilous journey together. Alongside Victoria is her best friend and as the story progresses their lives and destiny becomes more and more intertwined.
The story is quite plain and the writing simple. That is not to say that it is a bad story nor that the writing is bad but it is why l decided to put the book in the young adult category.
I quite liked the book. It is a good fast paced adventure. There are plenty of likable characters including wizards, orcs and various other kinds of fantastic creatures. There is a fair bit of humor and a of course a healthy dose of action.
As l am writing this l am already reading book #3 in this series. As I said the story and the writing is fairly simple so the books are quite quick reads. Still, the story builds itself up and I do feel eager to learn what’s going to happen in the next chapter not to mention the next book.
