This was a heart-warming account of a boy who overcame the greatest of odds to quench his thirst for knowledge and benefit his family and village. He recalls his growing up during one of the worst famines Africa had seen, and how much his family and village suffered during these times. His accounts of what they had to eat to survive was unsettling, and it just adds to the marvel of his perseverance. I highly recommend this book.
