The Relentless Moon by Mary Robinette Kowal
4.0
These books remind me of nothing so much as [a:Kim Stanley Robinson|1858|Kim Stanley Robinson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1376955089p2/1858.jpg]'s [b:Red Mars|77507|Red Mars (Mars Trilogy, #1)|Kim Stanley Robinson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1440699787l/77507._SY75_.jpg|40712] saga.
Either the writing is getting better or I'm so absorbed by the story that I don't mind so much. Or it could be that it was Elma I didn't care for as a narrator, not Kowal as an author. Nicole's was a fun head to live in.
