If Cane Could Talk
by J. Sonder
This book has been sitting in my TBR pile for two months, and this morning, I decided I was ready.
I was nervous to read it, and I’ll admit that 30 pages in, I wasn’t sure I could do it... but I’m so glad I did. This story describes a life that draws deep parallels to my little hometown — both the people and slower paced way of being I love and often miss, and the attitudes and views I’m thankful I left behind.
That comparison to what is so familiar to me made me cringe at a few parts and laugh at others when I could clearly picture someone I know as the character. For 200 pages, I couldn’t figure out how this story would end, and before I realized what was happening — and LONG before I was ready for it to end, the author gave me hope that the struggles that still plague my southern Louisiana home won’t be struggles forever.
I’ve already set a google alert for the next book J. Sonder writes, so I really hope he’s hard at work already.
