Four Feet Under: Thirty Untold Stories of Homelessness in London
by Tamsen Courtenay
Though this book at times made me miserable and angry, it also filled me with admiration and a will to impress the need for all to read it. Lives patiently and respectfully captured, their own voices tell us what we need to hear - the lives of people without homes, though often more ragged and tested to greater extremes than our own, are also complex, beautiful and nuanced. Jaw-dropping challenges don’t obliterate the courage, the hope and despair. These are the stories of real people, likeable people, so often admirable, and painfully suffering. It is such a failure of our society, that people can be so badly let down. I urge you to read it.
