Pachinko is a beautiful, tragic, multigenerational saga about Korean immigrants trying to survive and make a life for themselves in Japan.

Min Jin Lee is an amazing writer with a timeless narrative voice. Her characters have complex motivations and personalities, and each has a unique & unforgettable story within the larger family saga. Even minor characters feel fully realized and essential to the story.

This book will give you a better understanding of what it means to be an immigrant, and the unique hardships faced specifically by Koreans living in Japan. And despite the heavy subject matter, the book still remains hopeful.
