I am a big fan of Stanley Tucci - his movies (do go and see Conclave!), his series Searching For Italy was divine and his memoir, Taste, fabulous. So, I was always going to like this book and like this book I did!

His love of authentic Italian cuisine is obvious, and the attention given in the description of the taste, textures and preparation, not to menton eating, of the food is wonderful but does induce hunger pangs. I truly do not understand how he can eat so much and stay so slim but there you go, some of us have faster metabolisms than others and I think mine is comatose.

Family is another big theme in the book and not surprisingly his family and extensive friend network pop up throughout. It is a delight to read and there are a few recipes included to get you into the kitchen.

There were a few sentences in the book that stood out to me:

"When you look at the mindless repetition of suffering in the world, even a glimmer of hope is hard to find. Human beings need one another because we can give each other so much, especially hope, but we often forget this. Just look at the way we treat each other. We also need the world and what is gives us, but we often forget that too. Just look at the way we treat it."

Food for thought.

A wonderful read.
