Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
5.0
I have fallen in love with a book and I do not know where to begin.
Ryka Aoki transported me to a world not so different from ours, that is except for donut loving aliens, and devil bound souls.
Through her beautiful lyrical writing, Aoki built a world where a beautiful trans girl finds her voice in the violin, a damned violinist teacher finds love again, and a refugee alien mother finds safety.
I could write an entire essay on this book, but all I will say is that it will stay in my heart for years to come.
TW: transphobia, child abuse, physical abuse, racism, sexual assault, body-dysmorphia, self harm, outing, depression.
