I don’t claim this lightly, but this was one of the most heartbreaking, gut wrenching books I have ever read. I was somewhat blind going into this read, unaware of the content of the story and the true depths of anguish I was about to dive into. I cannot say that I came out the other end of this book as a better person, but I came out changed nonetheless. This story may be fictional, but I have never felt the reality of something so intensely. It is not fiction, it is life, and these things are evident results in our current world of the flaws we have made as a race. I feel the compassion that is within Hassan, I carry the guilt in my throat with Amir, I feel disillusionment planting roots in my mind like Sohrab. I will love this book with my whole heart, a thousand times over.
