3.0

As I was finishing reading this, I thought I'd give it 3.5 stars, but now I'm somewhere between that and 3. It's not that it was bad, it still has the same neat plot structure and charming(?) quirks as the first, but this time around it was a little less enticing.
I still enjoyed the world building and setting, but with less mystery and urgency as the first I didn't feel the thrill/tension.
Spoiler I guess just inherently knowing that all the main characters will make it out because of all the fake-out deaths ruins the anticipation. Plot armor :(
There are still many cool ideas implemented with the goon squad and wormhole. I enjoy seeing what the authors come up with because sometimes everything just clicks so well.
I really liked Hanna as a character, and how the female leads have been the heart of the books so far. The only thing that turns me off about Hanna is having her be veryyyyy flirty while still having a bf, to the point where I feel bad for her bf (which I know I'm not supposed to)... Speaking of romance, I didn't really root for the main couple and found Nik's backstory unnecessary. I guess I'm just not a mafia girl at heart.
Overall there were a lot of aspects similar to Illuminae and I enjoyed getting to see another place in this world!
