Air Awakens by Elise Kova

4.0

I know I said I was going to stop reading/listening to YA novels for awhile but that was obviously a lie. I got the whole air awakens series on audible and decided to start this next because it would give me hours and hours of listening over the summer. This was a solid four star book. I just didn’t find myself as invested in the characters at this point but that didn’t make the story bad.

Vhalla being a library apprentice was a wonderful start. She’s bookish and doesn’t really care to be the center of attention. She just wants to learn. But when the crowned prince needs help, Vhalla is drawn into a world she never wanted to be part of.

Vhalla was a wonderful change to the YA books I’m used to. She was able to rationalize her feelings and learn and grow past her own biases. It was SO REFRESHING, especially her conflicting feelings with her love interests. It’s avatar the last airbender with a much darker twist to it. I also love me a dark Prince and apparently Vhalla does too.

I can’t wait to read the next book and see how this story plays out. The only issue I had was the weirdness of the ending but it set the stage for the subsequent books so I can’t have too much of an issue with it.
