A Kingdom of Flame and Fury by Whitney Dean

Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.

i really tried but i didn’t like where it was going. mmc zeke was making questionable and unreasonable choices that affected fmc. their relationship had no basis other than mysterious “twin flames” bond. i liked the idea of the magic and how it was executed with fmc literally having split personalities which wilded different elements. that was the only unique and interesting aspect of the book.

i obviously didn’t like cade. he was controlling and was acting like fmc’s boyfriend with no boundaries between then , even though he was her advisor and just a friend. but i also wasn’t fond of mmc zeke , who suddenly became possessive of her and jealous of everyone, even though he had just arrived to the island and had no right to behave that way.

i generally didn’t like that cade&raven’s relationship was more than “queen and her advisor”. lines were too blurred. i faulted raven for that or her aunt when raven was younger. she should’ve put some boundaries between her and cade. it was unprofessional otherwise.

it bothered me that zeke was sifting through raven’s memories without her knowledge and consent. he generated this great plan to manipulate fmc so he could protect her but couldn’t he be just truthful with her and explain the situation so they move on together?

raven didn’t seem like a queen. she did nothing “queenly” all day every day. she forgot about big events. she never questioned zeke and his motives. i didn’t respect her as a ruler. neither did cade it seemed.
