Did not finish book. Stopped at 63%.
I was so looking forward to reading this - it seemed like it would be a little similar to The Starless Sea and I was interested in what exactly it would be like. Turns out, it was like something I didn't enjoy reading. Tragically.
The writing felt so off - like it was trying so hard to be whimsical and lyrical but all that came across was the trying. I decided to pick it up and read a few more pages before officially DNFing it and the line "The rose is such a dramatic actress, always flouncing its way around the garden" was the final straw. I don't find the characters interesting, the romance thing that is going on is simply unnecessary and unenjoyable and there really wasn't anything to keep me reading this other than the fact that it was at least a fairly quick read. RIP.
