This is only the second book I’ve read by Daphne du Maurier and it did not disappoint. I originally picked this up because I wanted to see how The Birds movie and the short story by her differed but I have to say, I may have liked the other short stories just as much, if not more. The movie was quite different from the short story but I still liked both. I’m not sure if these stories worked for me because they were a tad longer than short stories tend to be or because she is a fantastic writer. Or a great combination of both. I have so many others by her waiting on my shelf and this makes me want to pick up another one right away. I absolutely loved both The Apple Tree and The Little Photographer. Both filled me with dread and uneasiness, but were so well written.
