Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions
by Neil Gaiman
a little collection of gaiman's short stories, some humorous, some weird, some completely fucked up, some i liked, and some i couldn't care less about.
there was a few gems in here i enjoyed, particularly Chivalry, The Price, Troll Bridge and Snow, Glass, Apples. the rest were either unmemorable or ones i just was meh about. while others say the introduction is long and unneeded, i actually really liked listening to gaiman explain the "backstory" to each story, who he was writing it for, how he came up with the idea in some cases, his journey of crafting the tale. i thought it was especially clever how he included a short story in the introduction as well!
i listened to this on audiobook, and gaiman narrates each story with a voice and tone appropriate to the story, made listening really easy and enjoyable, even if i found the particular piece boring or not my thing.
