Nicholas Sparks and I had been on a long break—since The Notebook, to be exact. But The Wish lured me back in, and I can confidently say Sparks still knows how to twist the knife straight into your heart. This book didn’t just tug at my emotions; it yanked them out, wrung them dry, and left me staring at the ceiling, questioning my life choices.
Yes, some of the twists were predictable, but when a story makes you feel this deeply, does it really matter? The journey—bittersweet, nostalgic, and full of love in its many forms—was worth every moment. Sparks may have a formula, but it’s one that still works.
Four stars, because my heart is still recovering.
