The Cookie Fiasco by Dan Santat, Mo Willems
5.0
You know that laughter that leaves your head hurting a little bit because you maybe need more oxygen? Where you have tears running down your face because you just can't stop laughing? That's the type of laughing I did when I read this book. The art and the voice of the Hippo just killed me.
Easy Readers are difficult to do well. It's hard to find a good balance of art, plot and easy to read. The text needs to be bigger and the font needs to be simple. This book does a great job with all three.
The art is wonderful. I have always like Santat's style. The facial expressions are killer, over-exaggerated and funny in a way that's appealing to kids (and clearly funny to at least one grown-up since I laughed so hard my co-workers were concerned). The story is silly and is a math problem, which I love.
This one is going on my go to list for kids and parents looking for new easy readers.
