This was a tough read for me, but worth it! I started reading/listening a little bit before the 2024 election and had to pause for a bit because it all was hitting too close to home, and I am so glad I finished it. Loved Julia Whelan as narrator of the book.

I don't normally read Historical Fiction, but absolutely loved the characters, the friendships and love, and even the dark truth of how all Vietnam war veterans were failed by those who had the luxury of being blind to the horrors. The strength Frankie had, even in her darkest moments, was inspiring as much as my heart broke for her. It was beautifully written, and I love that Kristin Hannah worked with veterans to ensure it was close to portraying the events and feelings that happened during and after the war. I easily got lost in the feelings of camaraderie, the pride/honor in serving the country, hurt/betrayal as the war progressed, the inevitable trauma that war brings, and the feeling of hope as healing can occur if given the right resources.

I cried at least three times listening to this book, like had-to-put-the-book-down sobbing. Highly recommend!
