Dearly by Margaret Atwood

Im one of those unfortunate readers who hasnt grown up reading poetry. We had some poetry reading in school, but it was too little or Im not sure what the actual reason was, but I dont remember anything about the poems I read in school.

Then recently, when I rekindled my reading habit four years back, I tried reading poetry that was getting a lot of publicity or hype. So I read Rupi Kaur, Nikita Gill, Amanda Lovelace. I liked some of their poems, but some of them seemed too simple. Some didnt even feel like poems to be honest. Maybe haikus? I dont know. But I wasn't very impressed.

Finally, I'm happy to say, that I've read a collection of poems I was impressed with. That made me feel things and conjure up images.

Margaret Atwood's Dearly, is compiled into five parts. As per my understanding, each part has poems that talk about a specific subject - such as memories, old age and death, feminism, environmental issues, and nature. My favorite sections were the poems under feminism and old age and death. I'm slowly growing older and been losing a lot of loved ones. So those poems connected with me and stayed with me longer.

I savored and poems and read them out loud. I intend to read them again. But I really enjoyed these poems.

If as lovers of poems, you have some good authors or collections to recommend to me, please do so in the comments section :)
