The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
5.0
Finally, Annabeth Chase gets her own book cover! At least in the version I read. The original cover is equally amazing, but a bit Child-of-Athena-less for a book titled, well "The Mark of Athena."
This book was everything I've come to expect from a Rick Riordan book and it was a fantastic ride! The series is exciting, it's funny, and it's just a wonderful world to just come home to. I love the characters, though I have to admit, Leo was a bit... annoying at times, in this one. Hazel is precious, and I'd say she needs to be protected, but she can handle that herself. And of course, Annabeth and Percy are Annabeth and Percy. I feel like in this book, we really get to see how much they've grown, separately and together, since it all started in The Lightning Thief.
Also, Annabeth says my favorite line ever written in a fictional book.
Adding a couple of slight trigger warnings: One for brief mentions of slavery in the Old South while the seven (and Coach Hedge) are in Charleston, SC. A second for mentions of animal cruelty being used as a tourist attraction (which does create an angry Percy.)
