Fence, Vol. 1 by C.S. Pacat
4.0
I was really nervous to read this considering my fencing education began and ended with the episode of iCarly where Spencer teaches Freddy how to fence, but the language was super easy for even a noob like me to understand and I appreciate that as I tend to steer away from sports novels as I fear I won’t grasp what’s happening.
There wasn’t too much character development in this volume (it’s the first one - i forgive) but the rivalry between Nicholas and Seiji is well set up, so much so that I’ll give in to the obligatory “oh my God, they were roommates” comment in this review.
The art is super engaging and different from any graphic novels I’ve previously read. I love the color palette and panel styles as well, it’s all wonderfully cohesive. I am glad I decided to begin this series and I cannot wait to continue it! I’m SO excited.
