Much deeper and darker than the film it inspired, this is a tale of three very different cops who get mired in the depraved underbelly of 1950s Los Angeles. It's a slow burn to start with, and Ellroy's sparse dialogue takes time to bed in, but by the end it'll have a firm grip on you.
