Time Is a Mother
by Ocean Vuong
challenging
reflective
fast-paced
I thought doing the audiobook would be great since the author gets to read their thoughts exactly as they want aloud, but hearing the same monotonastic cadence for 2 hours was rough. A mish-mash of re-used metaphors, bitter insight, and heartfelt baring of experience. "American Legend" and "The Punctum" were my favorites, but when Ocean strayed from their own internal experience it weakened the text into an odd pretention that made it hard to finish.
Graphic: Cancer, Gun violence, Racism, Self harm, Car accident, Death of parent
